Enameling

Enameling is an ancient Greek art form, dating back to 4th century B.C. This intricate process bonds an opaque layer of glass to a metal, glass, or ceramic surface by baking at high temperatures, resulting in a decorative and protective coating.

Unfortunately, with an increasing number of jewelers using plastic enamels and epoxy paints, enameling with glass has become a lost art form.  At Charles Thomae, all of our enameling is done in glass — a much more elegant complement to fine jewelry.  Every piece we create is hand crafted, resulting in slight variations in color and shading, making each enameled item a unique treasure.

Etching

At Charles Thomae, when it comes to photo etching, we hold equally high standards.  Many of our competitors equate etching to applying a rendering of a signature or illustration to a metal surface.  At Charles Thomae, we specialize in etching an exact duplication through a proprietary method created by our founder more than 80 years ago.  Timeless, intricate detailing is captured in every photo etched piece we create, evidence that the very best practices always stand the test of time.

We etch a wide variety of items for our clients.  We often etch silver trays with wedding invitations, birth announcements or family crests. Plaques and other corporate gifts can be etched with corporate logos and messages to commemorate retirements or other business achievements. We also etch trophies for sporting and charity events.

Applications:  Our photo etching process can be applied to a variety of metal surfaces, excluding gold and platinum.  Contact us for a consultation.
